Kids on Bikes (KOB) was established as a nonprofit organization in 2005 with a mission to inspire and empower all kids to lead healthy, active and happy lives through bicycling. It is with this goal in mind that we have identified three priorities that we believe will help us achieve that mission. Those priorities are to provide access to bikes and equipment so that all children and families can ride, we educate in safety and mechanics and we encourage kids and families to ride more frequently through organized camps and events.
In 2016 we opened the Pedal Station, a social enterprise and community bike center of Kids on Bikes. We did this to address the need of having a centralized headquarters to get more bikes out to more people through a streamlined operation of bike donations coming in and then going back out to people who need them. There is a large retail and educational component to the Pedal Station as well. In 2020, the Pedal Station expanded its social enterprise and opened a service arm. Bike service provides free repair to KOB programs and provides a low cost option for service to other customers of the Pedal Station. It also created a Mobile Bike Service to meet the programs where they are and provide service in bike shop deserts.
