Paul Baumann has worked in Education Commission of the States’ National Center for Learning and Civic Engagement since 2010, and has served as its director since 2011. He earned his Ph.D. in education policy from the University of Maryland (UMD)–College Park, where his research focused on issues of teacher quality, teacher education and teacher compensation. Prior to attending UMD, Paul taught vocal music for 10 years at a private high school in suburban Maryland and in the District of Columbia Public Schools. He has served several terms on the board of directors of the Organization of American Kodály Educators, a national professional association of music educators, and currently serves as the organization’s president. When not in the office, Paul enjoys spending time with his husband, Chris, their son, Brooks and daughter Cora; trying out new recipes; and keeping in touch with his five siblings
